Congratulations to Gabriel Mascaro, whose documentary film HIGH-RISE (Um Lugar ao Sol) was awarded a Special Mention at this year’s BAFICI!

We just caught an ad for an exciting partnership we want to alert the RFF community to. It’s a collaboration between Massify, an online community for film folks and Christine Vachon’s Killer Films. The two organizations are hosting a competition where the winner will produce a short film backed by Massify and Killer’s combined resources and expertise.

Filmmakers can pitch their stories here by the deadline of May 14, or apply to produce the behind-the-scenes coverage of the project.

“Luminaries like Bill McKibben underscored the importance of this ‘incredibly unique’ movement [The Green Long March], and said progress in this area ‘lies with people whose interests are as much in the future as they are in the present.’ Such comments cast the Green Long March in both a meaningful and inspiring light, especially when you stop to consider how truly long the road ahead is.” FULL ARTICLE.

Monday night, the Cinereach community gathered to watch the films created by the 2008/9 Fellows, Dena Greenbaum, Brendon McQueen, Jules Monteyne and Danielle Russell and to celebrate their accomplishments.

The screening at Anthology Film Archives was packed, and the reception at the Bowery Hotel even more so! Thanks to all who attended and gave encouragement and feedback to our filmmakers.

Congratulations to all our Fellows, Mentors and Advisors on their accomplishments in the program, and to Brendon and Danielle who both received the Reach Out 2009 Award. Each will receive an additional $2500 grant towards the promotion and distribution of the film produced during the Reach Film Fellowship.

Applications for the upcoming RFF cycle will go live on this web site on April 15th. Please let us know if you want to become involved, and see indieWire’s coverage of Monday’s event here.

SUGAR , from the writing/directing team behind HALF NELSON, was produced by our RFF Mentor/Advisor Jeremy Kipp Walker. It opens this weekend in New York City and Los Angeles, so if you have a chance, please check it out and spread the word.  For tickets click here, or to read the NYT review, click here.
