Burma Soldier tells the powerful story of a Burmese soldier who swapped sides to join Aung San Suu Kyi’s struggle for a democratic Burma.
About the Filmmakers:
Burma Soldier is directed by Nic Dunlop, produced by Julie LeBrocquy, and Break Thru Films founders Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern are co-directors.
Nic Dunlop is a Bangkok-based photographer and author represented by Panos Pictures in London. His work has appeared in numerous publications worldwide. He is also author of The Lost Executioner, which tells the story of his discovery of Pol Pot’s chief executioner. Nic is currently completing a major photographic book on Burma’s dictatorship entitled Burma: Betrayal.
Annie Sundberg’s and Ricki Stern’s films include the award winning and Emmy nominated films The Devil Came on Horseback (NatGeo/2007), The Trials of Darryl Hunt (HBO/2006), and the forthcoming feature about comic legend Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work (IFC/2010). Each of these films premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to theatrical release and television broadcast in over 60 countries. In 2009, Sundberg and Stern received a Sundance/Skoll “Stories of Change” production grant for a film about the innovative program YouthBuild – following three Philadelphia youths at risk who enter a powerful year-long alternative education program to rebuild their own lives and communities. Additional award winning films include Tully (2003 Spirit Award nominee), In My Corner (POV/PBS) and One Survivor Remembers (HBO).
