About this Grantee:

FilmAid works with young adults in refugee camps teaching them basic camera and editing skills in an effort to help them tell their own stories through video. Through this program, FilmAid develops the participants’ self-esteem while providing hands-on skills training and a means of communicating within their community. The film festival celebrates their accomplishments.

FilmAid’s mission is to use the power of film to promote health, strengthen communities, and enrich the lives of the world’s vulnerable and uprooted. FilmAid has been both effective in its mission and embraced by many leading humanitarian organizations due to unwavering commitment to its core principles:

a). FilmAid works with local committees to ensure that the content used in its programs is appropriate and relevant for the intended audience. These Advisory Committees represent a cross-section of the local population and engage the rarely heard voices of women and youth;

b). FilmAid collaborates with local communities in program design, implementation and evaluation;

c). FilmAid partners with humanitarian experts and nongovernmental organizations in the field;

d). FilmAid performs ongoing evaluations to measure results and identify possible program improvements.
