About the Film:
Girl Model follows U.S. and Russian model scouts who travel through remote Siberian villages looking for thirteen to fifteen year old girls suitable for modeling jobs in Japan. This poetic film brings viewers into a modeling industry rife with mirrors, images, facades, and uncertainty. It is difficult to know who these young girls can trust and where the industry takes them when their eyes are covered.
About the Filmmakers:
David Redmon began his filmmaking career with the documentary Mardi Gras: Made in China. During the production of that film, David and Ashley Sabin met and continued collaborating on Kamp Katrina, Intimidad and Invisible Girlfriend. Both Redmon and Sabin are currently completing two more documentary projects Girl Model, and Darlings. A year ago with greater aspirations for the life of their films Sabin and Redmon started the distribution branch of their production company Carnivalesque Films. Carnivalesque Films now distributes all of their productions and also other gems including Manhattan, KS, Holy Modal Rounders: Bound to Lose, The New Year Parade, Woodpecker, October Country, Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo, Citizen Architect, and Loot .
