Cinereach grantee, Entre Nos, a film by Gloria La Morte and Paola Mendoza, will open in NYC May 14th and will be screening at the Quad Cinemas (34 West 13^th Street) through May 20th.

In Entre Nos, adoring mother Mariana has toted her two children from Colombia to New York City to indulge her husband’s whim. But when he abruptly abandons the family, she’ll have to rely on her own imagination and the courage of her remarkable kids to survive insurmountable odds during their first summer in the United States.

Discounted tickets will be available at the Quad Cinemas for $8 to members of IFP, NALIP, & WMM. Please bring proof of membership to receive the discount.

February 16th Tribeca Film Institute will partner with the New School to present a Case Study of Entre Nos, a Cinereach grantee. Tribeca Film Institute’s blog post reads, “What makes this film so wonderful is that it is based on a true story, and so it is told from the heart. What makes it astounding is that Paola and Gloria made it for next to nothing.” Both Paola Mendoza and Gloria LaMorte will be present to discuss the process of getting their award-winning film made. ENTRE NOS received an Honorable Mention Award at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and was the Audience Award Winner for Best Narrative Feature at the 2009 Newport International Film Festival.

The fifth annual Traverse City Film Festival will be held July 28 through August 2, 2009, and was founded by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore, who runs the festival and serves as the President of the Board of Directors.

This Friday June 12th, Rooftop Films will be screening BRONX PRINCESS, a Cinereach grant recipient, as part of their “New York Non Fiction” program. The film follows headstrong 17-year-old Rocky’s journey as she leaves behind her mother in New York City to reunite with her father, a chief in Ghana. Filmed during the tumultuous summer between high school and college, this funny and touching documentary tells Rocky’s coming-of-age story. For full program, click here.

Saturday, June 13th, Rooftop’s Panorama will take place on the roof of the Old American Can Factory. The event will be a series of discussions and a screening of the film PERSONA NON GRATA. Cinereach, Shooting People, and IndiePix are teaming up to discuss “The Art of Effective ‘Issue’  Storytelling” and “Tips, Tools and Wisdom to Help You Make the Right Decisions For Your Film.” Paola Mendoza (Cinereach grantee and RFF advisor) will take part in the first panel, along with Justin Schein (NO IMPACT MAN), Fabio Wuytack (PERSONA NON GRATA) and Bilge Ebiri (New York magazine). Cinereach Grants Manager, Adella Ladjevardi will be on the second panel, along with Leah Sapin (Arts Engine), Janet Brown (Cinetic), Liz Ogilvie (B-Side), Tia Lessin (TROUBLE THE WATER), Andy Bichlbaum (THE YES MEN FIX THE WORLD). Cinereach and The Reach Film Fellowship afford the emerging filmmaker more than an opportunity: they provide a setting where curiosity is nurtured and where asking questions is what it’s all about. Being awarded the Reach Out Award (along with Danielle Russell) has made all the difference in creating opportunities for my film. Following the fellowship I have received great feedback on of my work, notable press, and the potential to start producing more films.
