About the Film:
The film takes a personal look at what she observes to be the death of oral tradition amongst African American families in the south. Through pushing her family’s previous generations to tell the stories of the social activism of their youth, she hopes to call the current generation of her family and others to continue their parents’ and grandparents’ the legacy of taking action.
About the Filmmakers:
Danielle Russell received her BFA in Film and Television from Savannah College of Art and Design; she also holds an AA in Art and an AS in Teacher Education from Atlanta Metropolitan College.
Russell is currently finishing an internship with CBS affiliate WVEE, where she works as the videographer of the radio station’s online fashion page. She previously worked with NABSE, the Pearson Foundation, and CBS affiliate WTOC-11. Russell was also the Segment Producer and First AD for the web series Pineapple Upside Down Cake (www.pudc.tv).
In 2008, Russell directed the documentary short Bridging the Gap. Russell recently started her own production company, Danaru33 Films LLC, with the mission of enhancing youth involvement in the cinematic arts.
