ABOUT THE TEAM

Director BONNI COHEN has produced and directed an array of award-winning films. Most recently, she produced the Oscar-nominated film LEAD ME HOME, which premiered at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival and is a Netflix Original. She also recently directed the short MAKE A SPLASH for ESPN, which premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival. She co-directed ATHLETE A, which won an Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Documentary and received four nominations from the Critics’ Choice Awards. Previously, Bonni co-directed AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER which was selected to be the opening night film of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, short-listed for the 2018 Oscars and nominated for a 2018 BAFTA for Best Documentary. In 2016 Bonni co-directed the Peabody Award winning film AUDRIE & DAISY, which premiered in competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was picked up as a Netflix Original film. In addition to her directing work, Bonni served as Producer on THE ISLAND PRESIDENT, winner of the 2011 Toronto International Best Documentary. Her work as producer and director on THE RAPE OF EUROPA earned her PGA and WGA nominations and was short-listed for the Oscars. In addition, Bonni produced Jon Else’s Sundance film, WONDERS ARE MANY and together with Else co-directed INSIDE GUANTANAMO, which was nominated for an Emmy for Best Documentary in 2009. Bonni also Executive Produced 3.5 MINUTES and ART AND CRAFT, both films were selected for the Oscar shortlist in 2015. Together with Lisa Chanoff, Bonni is the co-founder of the Catapult Film Fund.

Director PEDRO KOS’s feature documentary directorial debut BENDING THE ARC (co-directed with Kief Davidson) premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. He recently wrote and produced Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer’s documentary THE GREAT HACK which premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, was nominated for a BAFTA Award and shortlisted for an Academy Award. He edited Noujaim’s Academy Award nominee THE SQUARE earning him an Emmy Award for Best Editing for a Non-Fiction program. Pedro’s also edited Lucy Walker’s Academy Award nominated documentary WASTE LAND, which won the Cinema Brazil Grand Prize for Best Documentary Editing, Audience Awards at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival, and IDA Award for Best Feature Documentary. Pedro edited Walker’s documentary feature, THE CRASH REEL (2013 SXSW Film Festival Audience Award winner). Prior to that he edited Jon Shenk’s THE ISLAND PRESIDENT (2011 Toronto Film Festival Documentary People’s Choice Award winner). He also served as 2nd Unit Director for ELEMENTAL, directed by Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee and Gayatri Roshan and Freida Mock’s SING CHINA!. In 2008, Pedro was the 2nd unit director on Jessica Sanders’ MARCH OF THE LIVING. Rio de Janeiro born, Pedro received his B.A. in Theater Directing from Yale University.

Director JON SHENK recently co-directed the Oscar-nominated film, LEAD ME HOME (Netflix). Previously, he co-directed ATHLETE A with his film partner, Bonni Cohen. ATHLETE A (Netflix) was selected for the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. Jon co-directed and photographed AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER (Participant Media/Paramount) which premiered on opening night of the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, was shortlisted for the 2018 Oscars, and was nominated for a 2018 BAFTA for Best Documentary. In 2016, Jon co-directed and photographed the Peabody Award-winning film AUDRIE & DAISY (Netflix), which premiered in competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. In 2011, Jon directed THE ISLAND PRESIDENT (Goldwyn Films), winner of the 2011 TIFF’s People’s Choice Award and IDA’s Pare Lorentz Award. Jon was awarded the 2004 Independent Spirit Award for directing LOST BOYS OF SUDAN (Shadow Distribution/PBS), served as the DP for the 2008 Academy Award-winning SMILE PINKI, and won an Emmy for BLAME SOMEBODY ELSE (PBS), 2007.

Producer JOSH PENN previously produced BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, (Sundance Grand Jury Prize, the Caméra d’Or at Cannes, and 4 Academy Award Nominations including Best Picture), PHILLY D.A. (Gothams, and Peabody award winner), MONSTERS AND MEN (Sundance award), A THOUSAND THOUGHTS (Sundance), BLOODY NOSE EMPTY POCKETS (Sundance award), USERS (Sundance award), WENDY (Sundance) and 32 SOUNDS (Sundance).

Producer NOAH STAHL produced REALITY (Berlin, Telluride, HBO), PATTI CAKE$ (Sundance, Cannes), SO LATE SO SOON (True/False, Criterion). As Executive producer: MONSTERS AND MEN (Sundance Special Jury Prize). As Co-producer: HEART OF A DOG (Oscar shortlist); WESTERN (Sundance Special Jury Prize). He is currently producing O’DESSA (Searchlight Pictures) and UNTITLED SOVIET SAILING FILM for director Sierra Pettengill.
